STATEMENT OF INTENT

How do you intent to use the 4 areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning & meet the requirements of your chosen brief?

 

For my music video, I will use various techniques to meet the requirements of the brief. The brief states that the target audience must be a ‘16-25 mass market demographic’ & therefore I am aiming for my final product to appeal to young adults. To do this, I plan on taking a more unique approach as I believe that the majority of 16-25 year olds show a higher interest in more unconventional music opposed to modern, mainstream music. To back this up, I will conduct a survey upon a diverse selection of young adults to gather information about their preferred music interests. Taking a more unique approach will not only help me reach a larger scale demographic but will also ensure that the work I produce fully engages the required target audience.

 

The brief also specifies that the music video I create must be for a ‘fictional pop band / artist’ however it doesn’t specify that the song used has to be pop. As I am aiming my final product towards a more refined target audience, I plan to use a less mainstream song, but still by a POPular artist, as this would be more appealing to my desired audience demographic.

 

One of the main features of my music video will be the use of animated motion graphics. I will use this illustrative technique to emphasize & highlight certain elements of the video. This will allow me to use media representations to visually connote meaning to the audience. When researching various music videos, I was instantly drawn to the ones that used animated motion graphics. I then explored this technique further & was influenced to incorporate it into my work.

 

I will also focus my mise-en-scene so that it will appeal & attract my target audience. For example, stylising the video in a way that is unconventional will match the aesthetic & message I’m trying to convey. I also plan on using a range of both eccentric & ordinary locations to represent different social groups & the changes within society.

 

Another way I will communicate meaning & respond successfully to the brief is through the fictional bands’ website. I will ensure that the design of the website is easy to navigate whilst still making it aesthetically pleasing & interesting for the audience. I will carefully consider my use of media language as well as conventional website design attributes, (such as images, logos, typography, fonts, colour scheme, backgrounds, layout, etc) to successfully promote the brand identity & allow the fans to interact with the band.

 

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge & understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?

 

I will ensure the brand image is consistent through my media products to highlight that both the music video & website are promoting the same band / artist. I will achieve this by making consistent use of fonts, images, logos, styles, etc in both the video & website. This will allow the audience to associate certain attributes with the brand identity of my media product as well making it easily recognisable.

 

Having the band represented digitally through a website, music video & social media platforms shows how the media product is digitally convergent to the clear development & rise in technology & how this has changed the audience’s perception of media products over time.
